The first solo CD by Grammy Award winning artist Sonny Lim, Slack Key Guitar The Artistry of Sonny Lim, is a tremendous individual project with the same award-winning promise.
As a member of the famous musical Lim family, Sonny was exposed to music from day one. He was introduced to ki ho'alu (slack key) while watching the legendary Gabby Pahinui perform at a lu'au in his hometown of Kohala. Sonny's professional musical journey started as a teenager, alongside some of the most respected Hawaiian musicians, including the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, and well-known slack key guitarist Fred Punahoa.
Filled with a majority of self penned originals, Slack Key Guitar The Artistry of Sonny Lim showcases musical arrangements, adapted tunings and techniques that he has learned from several masters while maintaining his own distinct style. His extensive training and knowledge of ki ho'alu shines through each of this albums 11 tracks, and leads the way for the continued growth of slack key music around the world.
